Pursuant to Section 30 of Republic Act 7796, commonly known as the TESDA Act of 1994, the authority is mandated to collaborate with private industries to organize and execute annual National Skills Olympics. The primary objective of these competitions is to enhance the quality of skills development within the country and prepare participants for international skills contests. The selection process for representatives to international competitions relies heavily on the outcomes of local competitions, spanning Provincial/District, Regional, and National levels.
Scheduled from July 17 to 20, 2023, the WorldSkills Asia Abu Dhabi 2023 will host participants from various regions. Among the contestants is Ms. Ana Claire Peñaojas Hernandez, the representative of RTC-NCR in the Graphics Design Technology Category. Her participation follows a victory in the 2023 Philippine National Skills Competition held from March 27 to 31, 2023, at the National Capital Region.
In anticipation of the WorldSkills Competition, Ms. Hernandez underwent an intensive training program from November 06 to 23, 2023, under the guidance of Mr. Demetrio C. Pable Jr., the Trainer of RTC-NCR for Visual Graphic Design NC III. The training sessions focused on technical aspects and expected outcomes, covering various areas such as staying abreast of technological trends, understanding input and output processes, mastering image manipulation, comprehending color systems, and proficiency in utilizing software applications. Evaluative quizzes and practical activities were integral components of the training, ensuring Ms. Hernandez’s comprehensive understanding and application of the acquired knowledge. A mock competition was also conducted to simulate the actual event and assess her preparedness for the upcoming challenge.
Following an intensive three-week training, Ms. Hernandez took part in the 2nd WorldSkills Asia Competition at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from November 25 to December 01, 2023. Securing the Silver Medal in Graphic Design Technology and earning the prestigious Best of the Nation Award, Ms. Hernandez’s remarkable achievements shine a spotlight on the excellence of RTC-NCR’s education and underscore her unwavering commitment to the field of graphic design. The competition, hosting participants and experts from over 30 countries across 27 technical and vocational skills, further highlights the global recognition of Ms. Hernandez’s skills and expertise.
